Picnic is closing and I'm so mad!

I've been using Picnic for a few years now. It is probably one of the best photo editing sites on the internet- everyone uses it because it is so easy. You could use it for free or you could pay a very nominal fee and use all of the cool edits.
Then Google came into the picture.

My Grandpappy used to say- If you can't beat a horse- buy the horse. Well, that is what Google has done to Picnic. They will close it as of April 19th.

I've been trying to use their version of Picnic-Google + and it SUCKS! Not only is it confusing, unwieldy, and hard to use, it insists you share your photo. Oh, it says you can share them, and just lock the album, and then 'share' it only to yourself. Only then can you try to edit your photo. I say try because it's hard to even find the right buttons. The tutorial says use 'lightbox'.Sure I will- when I find it!

I am just as angry as a wet cat in a wind tunnel!
There are a few other sites I will try. PicMonkey ( which doesn't have any of the cool editing tools but seems easy) or Aviary ( which looks expensive. I says looks, because it won't let me try it on my own photos with out paying for it first.)
Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but I was doing great with Picnic- I felt GOOD about Picnic!

I have a feeling this is just a warning shot fired across my bow. First NetFlix submarined its users, and now Google. What we have grown used to, are happy with and works great- will no longer be available. Our choices are being limited by our tech savvy. Bookstores are falling prey to Amazon and it's e-readers, phones to A.T.T or Verizon and their smart phones or notepads.

To those of us over the hill- well, your kids better love you. You are going to need them to navigate your whole lives soon.

OK, I know how you feel. I love picnic; however what is, is and it's time for you to move up to Photoshop Elements. You can do this. I know you can. I think it's 69 dollars at Amazon. Yikes did I mention that. Anyway, go ahead, take the plunge. I know you're going to like it.

When I found out that Picnic was going under I switched to PhotoBucket- also a free site, easy to use, but different editing tools. It works well, so I imagine it will get taken over at some point too. Bah.

I understand your frustration. I think you're right about when we get used to something and like it, they either take it away or make it too expensive to warrant its' use...in many ways, technology sucks! I must be really behind the times though, I've never heard of picnic until now, and have never used any photo editing ever. I just take the pictures. I must be seriously behind the times.

Hi it's me again, being the buttinsky(can you tell I'm from the east?) Taking a little walk down memory lane, do you remember my first rule of prossessing, "Save your shot as a TIFF." Why because with a JPEG, you lose a little bit of info with everything you do. Can't do that with Picnic. Can do that with Elements. NUDGE NUDGE NUDGE.

lol! So true. Whenever I get a virus on my computer or can't figure out some weird software or download, I ask my 15 yr old sons...and they always come to my rescue and make the world right again. lol!

Love what you said: "I am just as angry as a wet cat in a wind tunnel!"

I can so see that image, too!

But don't be mad...be happy. I've been using a free down-loadable program for over 2 years now...I'm too cheap to buy expensive Picnik memberships or over priced and confusing Photoshop software.

What I use is called PhotoScape and it is so simple to use. There is no learning curve and it does most of not all the things that Photoshop does. And best of all...it's FREE!
And you save it on your computer, so you can edit and play with photos even when you're not online!

I love it...and I'm pretty sure you will, too!

Ok, to make it even easier for you, I went an got the direct link for info and to download.

If you download, you will never have to be worried or angry about a photo editing site closing it's doors, because you save this software on your own computer, so it's always available to you and never changes or goes out of business.

And like I said, one of my favorite aspects is that I can futz and play around with editing my photos even when I have no internet access, like when I'm waiting for my sons during their Volleyball practice ;)

I edit in iphoto, it isn't advanced, but at least has minimal effects and can clean up the coloring/ exposure in a photo. I'm sorry your favorite is being shut down, can't imagine how frustrating that must be! My feeling is that if a new program is being introduced, it must at least be easier or more straight-forward than the one before it, not more difficult!
