Please say it ain't so!

I read in yesterdays San Francisco Chronicle ( so it MUST be true) that bloggers were giving up blogging in favor of Face book. The control group (whoever that was) said that the FB is easier to connect to with their friends, they can download more pictures directly from their phones and get comments in real time.

I say Ha.
Ha....Ha.

I suppose that those ex-bloggers are just too busy and hip to stick with the blog form of communication. They want to upload or download pictures directly from their phones to FB... oooo- better watch that one...
Pic's of drunken tom-foolery? No chance to think about it or sober up- oh no! Just post them pictures baby! The rest of us are waiting here at our keyboards just a waitin'. and BTW so is your boss, and your mother and maybe your great aunt... FB ain't just for kiddies anymore!

Perhaps a written form of communitcation that has more than 143 characters will be just too much for their puny little electronic gadget filled brain to comprehend.Perhaps they never learned to type on a full sized key board. They may never have picked up a No. 2 pencil except in math class( and who knows even then!)

As they say- WhatEVER! I blog as much for my own satisfaction as for yours. I hope you do the same. If you aren't passionate about what you write, then why bother? FYI I am passionate about growing out my horses tail, the size of my dog, the lunacy of others and the current weather situation.
I am concerned about teen aged pregnency, oil prices and unrest in the Middle east- but not enough to write about them. Let other passionate people do that. There are a butt load of them out there trying.

I find your everyday trials and tribulations endlessly facinating. I love to look at other peoples travel and kid photographs, and I always have. You need advice- well I have plenty, and no one around here wants to take it- I will give it freely to you! I want to see the weather in Alaska and then in Arizona. I want to know who visits your blog and why. I like to lurk on occasion-so sue me!
All and all I am not ready to give up on the blog. I am however about to give up on FB.It reminds me of being back in high school and going to a great big frat school party. There are all the 'cool kids' spouting their own personal wisdoms. There are the brainyiacs quoteing obscure verse to remind everyone that they are cerebreal. There are the jocks and the rah rahs, the geeks showing up occasionally and changing their pictures to something real weird. They can poke you, or kiss you and you can't get away.  But do  you really need to see this guys 'junk' and this girls pantie shots? Do I really care enough to be here in the middle of all this babble?
It's like this- I really didn't enjoy High School all that much either. It cut into my riding or working time, just like FB.
So my little prediction is that we will eventually graduate from FB and into the newest big thing ( what ever fresh hell that will be). I'll stay on- I'm too nosey not to want to lurk occasionally. And I do keep in touch with my finally found relatives in Texas and Florida: (LOVE you guys!)
And to you stick with it, die hard bloggers- Thank you! Keep blogging. It aint over until the fat lady sings and I haven't even begun warming up!

My experience with Facebook has consisted of having my Friend request denied by my back-then best friend in my college sorority (so much for sisterhood), followed by a bunch of perverted men asking to be my friend and then posting half naked pictures of themselves. Oh yes, and then there are all the Bible bangers who want you in their feed so they can convert you to their belief system. Now I just basically use it to monitor what my grown kids are doing. I got an email from Twitter this morning saying some strange man wants to tweet with me, and I didn't even know I set up an account. I'm sticking to blogging.

Man 'O Man! I agree with you! Too many peeps don't think before posting photos about themselves and friends. You DON'T have to share EVERYTHING with the whole world. It takes a little more time to blog, and I think, more creativity. I would much rather read blogs than F.B.

As a person who hasn't been on Facebook and doesn't intend to, I couldn't agree more. I love reading everyone's blogs and looking at their pictures. Once again you said it all.

I'm like NM-I have a FB page so I can keep track of what my teenager posts, but that is the only reason.

I did have some friends I fell out of touch with find me on FB, so that was cool.

My Honey does his FB thing too.

Me...I'm sticking to blogging.

I do know a number of bloggers who have pretty much given up their blogs and gone the way of FB. While I miss them, I sure don't get the supposed appeal of FB.

I have an account and a huge group of friends I don't know. The only thing I really do there is my blog posts automatically in my notes so I don't really even have to do anything. I rarely even sign on. I suppose I should be posting pics of horses I have for sale but so far I haven't kicked that into gear.

I find, as you said, it is so much like high school and I can't even tell you how much I never want to go back there. I won't be leaving blogging anytime soon.

Last night there was a tv news type show (don't recall which one) that did one of those true crime stories on a murder that likely happened because of social networking. It wasn't FB but the outdated MySpace. The bravado of each girl fueled the fire and one of them ended up dead and the other in prison for life. The point of the story was how reckless people can get with their postings saying things they would never say face to face. These two warred back and forth over this useless guy who worked both of them. Stirring the pot and egging them on until it spilled over into real time. Scary but true. Behavior experts are concerned about the changes in people's behavior because of social networking that seems to be breaking down barriers and constraints that kept people civil towards one another. I can say from the way I was attacked on FB, I think they have a pretty valid point. People became like sharks in a feeding frenzy. It was very weird.

I went on FB just to keep track of my far-flung family, but I really don't like it- for most of the reasons you and the commenters stated. I really don't like the invasion of privacy with it. My husband does FB, it has allowed him to connect with a lot of people from his past- he's a very social person- and they have actually kept in touch because of facebook.
I think that blogging allows us to be creative, instead of the knee-jerk reaction that comes with social networking. It takes a lot of time and thought to do a good post. Having something in common- horses- opens up some great dialogues too.

Personally I can't stand FB. For me, it's a necessary evil because so many of my friends and family use it and expect me to keep in touch with them that way. Bah!
I rarely ever visit FB and feel it's just too superficial for my tastes. I'm a person of many words and even more photographs. FB doesn't meet my needs at all.
I've never even taken a photo with my phone. I'm not even sure that I can. My phone is over 4 years old. lol!

So, I'll still be at my blog doing my blogging thing for as long as it exists.

I do FB but it will not take the place of my blog. My FB page is very restricted as well so not just anyone can come looking at my stuff.

I enjoy my blog. Sometimes I can't find the time to update it as much as I'd like but I'll stay at it. Plus I wouldn't have found all you awesome people if it hadn't been for it!

As you know I do both. I am a lazy blogger. However, I am also a lazy FB'er. I do like it to "network" as they say. Especially for the horseman.

I don't think FB or blogging will go away. As the other comments have said, each serves its purpose. Plenty of us need both, and enough of us need one or the other that both will live long, if controversial, lives!

I use both, but I use them for different things. You can't tell a story on FB like you can with a blog. Also, details tend to disappear with FB. Plus blogging lets you hold on to things for posterity, unlike FB. But, FB lets me keep in touch with a few bloggers in real time, who are maybe too busy to blog right now or having a minor crisis or whatever. So, I'll continue using both, and saving my stories for my blog.

I enjoyed everyone's comments as much as your post! I do FB, Dogster, Flickr, and blog. Really, the things that I enjoy most are blogging and Dogster.

Somehow, Dogster gets on the back burner though. And because of my new found enjoyment of photography, I really do enjoy the Flickr social aspect too.

How can we do it all, with limited hours in the day...I know I can't! I don't read as many blogs as I used to, and that frustrates me. I love the relationships developed through the blog. You really get to know someone that way...even if you've never met them face to face.

But the one thing about FB that I do like is awareness. One example is a bill that would make horse roping at the Oregon Ranch Rodeos illegal. Most folks would say that it sounds like a no brainer and it should be passed. But, there is another side to every story. Horse roping in our part of the country is practiced daily. It's an art that has been handed down from father to son for many generations, and a tradition that we want to save. Roping a horse in the correct way is an amazing thing to watch...the feel of the rope in the roper's hand knows just the right amount of pressure...give and take. Without FB, we probably would have not known about the bill hearing and lost a small piece of our Western Heritage. So, I have to thank FB for allowing our community to come together. We're spread so far apart logistically that we would have never known about the hearing. FB brought us together.

So, I just take what I need from everything...and just wish I had more hours in the day!!!

Great post...food for thought~

I never knew about the horse roping. Mostly I thought of horse roping as being more of a 'horse tripping' thing- like in the Mexican rodeo. Not cool at all.
Roping a horse for the safety of the cowboys and the safety of the horses- that is a cool thing. I've seen it and it is like magic.
I do agree that the social network has it's place- networking with like minded folks. Of course that means politically as well as religiously and friendly. It is a slippery slope and one that more than afew people have trouble negotiating. I will prefer blogging. HOw else could I really meet great gals like you all!
