A Rose is still a rose

We have decided to get a new puppy. Since Mac died the house is just too empty! Actually we are planning to get two, but we are getting the smallest one now and the Great Dane in the Spring.

I know! I know! Another Great Dane? Well-yes! I love the breed and it's sometimes nice to have a big dog at your back, and you don't have to bend over to pet them, and my house is still Great Dane proofed- so why not. I've even picked a breeder- in Texas! If I drive out from California to get him I'll have to make a few stops along the way to say hi to some of my blog buddies!

ANY-way... we are going to look at a Boston Terrier on Thursday. I've wanted one for a long time. It's a little girl and I've told OD that it can be her dog. She is so excited, she's never had her own dog before- they have always been my dogs.

OD is looking for the perfect name.
This is where things start to go south and get complicated.

"Who is going to name her!"
" You named the last one!"
" You'll pick a goofy name!"

Hubby doesn't want a frou-frou- ankle biter name. His pick is something from his favorite Band- The Greatful Dead. We have had Stella's and Begonia's and Sugar's and Sugar-rees. Jackstraws and so many more... I'm bored to death with Greatful Dead names!

Amy wants something very special. It's like she is naming her first child! Her picks are Alabama,Ivy,Cora, Fizzygig ( I don't know!) and Lola.

All this morning the debate raged.

This name is too frou-frou, that name is to long, too soft, too short, not enough consonants, been used before, too common.

Lil Mama told her she should wait to see what kind of temperament the dog has before naming her. (Good Advice)
Me- I really don't care- I seldom get to name our animals anyway.

Stay Tuned to see who wins!

I don't care what she names it. I am calling it Fizzgig anyway!

Oooh! How exciting! Some new 4-legged family members!

It took me over 10 years to finally be able to consider adopting another dog of my own after my sweet Charity died of old age. I really wanted another pomeranian/papillon with lots of fluffy fur to pet and brush. But after 6 months of looking around at the shelters, I just couldn't find one (and the 'rescues' were trying to sell all their small dogs for $200-300 each!), so when I went to our local animal shelter/pound and this short-haired, chihuahua/daschund mix looked up at me with soulful eyes and then only wanted to cuddle on my lap when I took her out of her kennel, I knew I had been adopted...and not the other way around. I still went home to 'think about it', but when I called the next afternoon and she was still there, I just knew it was meant to be!

You really do get what you need and not always what you want. Folks keep telling me how lucky my little Dobbie is for my family to rescue her and give her a home, but it's me that feels so lucky. Her intense devotion, loyalty and love astounds me every day. She truly is my little companion and I'm so grateful to have found her.
It's only been 3 months and it feels like she's lived here with me forever. lol!

Oh and I know about names, too. I rarely get to choose names, but my Dobbie picked her own. There wasn't any 'thinking about names'. Her name just was. Simple as that.
I'm one who also thinks that it's good to wait until an animal arrives and you get to know them a bit before naming then. The name then seems to fit better that way :)

Have fun with your pup!

I find that whatever name we pick rarely ends up being the name we use. Every pet develops his or her own nickname based in personality in time.

Oh a new pup so exciting! I have to have the pup for a few days before I can name him. He usually names himself.

Where in Texas is the other dog? This has been the year of cross country dog gettin'!

A new puppy is always exciting!!! Boston Terrier's are a really nice breed...the lil' girl will be so much fun!

We're taking in an Australian Cattle Dog on a trial basis...she's coming with the name "Bella"...there's a ton of Bella's out there and wouldn't have been my choice. But, it's hard to change at 8 months...we'll see.

Good luck on the puppy naming debate!
